This Bonfire Night, we took a family trip to Coram’s Fields for their fireworks display. It Teon and I first time attending an event like this, and even more special because I was able to share it with our family. I’ve been wanting to experience this since Teon was a baby, but I hadn’t wanted to go alone. I’m so grateful to have had this first with our little family of four.

I’d heard Coram’s Fields was accessible, but seeing it in action really blew me away. For families with additional needs, especially those using wheelchairs or walkers, Coram’s Fields set the bar high with thoughtful accessibility throughout the event.

Smooth Arrival & Accessible Entry

Because Bonfire Night is such a major event, they closed the roads around the park, but they made sure to keep a smooth path about 50-100 yards from the parking area to the entrance. Teon was in his electric wheelchair (“Bugsy”), and the journey was comfortable and easy.

On our way in, we got to enjoy the sights and sounds of the holiday spirit even before entering the park. We could see lights and stalls selling toys and treats, which made it feel magical from the start. The queue to enter was long, as expected on a night like this, but the stewards at Coram’s Fields were amazing. As soon as they saw Teon’s wheelchair, they kindly guided us to an area with quick and easy access.

Accessible Viewing Zone – A Perfect View for All

Once inside, the experience was seamless. Signs directed us to both the premium and accessible viewing zones, which was refreshing to see. The accessible area was thoughtfully designed. It wasn’t just for wheelchair users but for anyone with special needs, which created a welcoming environment for everyone.

Chairs were even provided in this area for guests, so parents, family members, and friends could sit comfortably while staying close to their loved ones. The positioning of the viewing zone was perfect, right at eye level for those using mobility aids. There was a big screen facing us, giving everyone a close-up view of the performances on stage.

An Unforgettable Fireworks Display 🎆

The fireworks themselves were breathtaking, a truly memorable experience for Teon and me. As they lit up the sky, I couldn’t help but feel emotional, knowing that this was our first firework display together, one that I hope to turn into a family tradition.

Smooth Exit & Safe Guidance

Leaving the event was made stress-free by the Coram’s Fields staff. With so many people in attendance, hundreds at least, the stewards kept things organized, guiding us out safely and efficiently despite the crowd.

Why We’ll Be Back Next Year

I would 100% recommend Coram’s Fields for families with accessibility needs. They genuinely go above and beyond, from accessible parking and clear entry routes to designated viewing zones and safe exits. It was heartwarming to see that they thought of every detail to make the experience enjoyable for all, regardless of mobility challenges.

So, shout out to the Coram’s Fields staff for making this Bonfire Night one I’ll never forget, and for setting a high standard for inclusive event spaces. Here’s to many more bonfire nights, creating memories and traditions with my son.

Love from your favourite accessible traveler!
